David Pulham - Orsett Club Captain 2009

Best golfing memory?

Playing at St Andrews. There was no wind and I hit exactly 100 shots with the same ball.

Favourite course in Essex other than Orsett?

Upminster. It’s historical and it’s where I started playing golf.

Favourite course in UK?

Woodhall Spa. Good companionship and a quality course.

Best tip?

Forget the last shot.

What changes would you like to see in the game?

Further improvements in facilities for youngsters.

Geoff Moody - Crondon Park Club Captain.

Best golfing memory?

Faldo winning the Masters.

Favourite course in Essex other than your own?

Romford. It’s nothing like Crondon and it’s very well established.

Favourite course in UK?

Sands in Cornwall. I always enjoy playing it.

Best tip?

Forget the last shot.

What changes would you like to see?

I think golfers should get a free drop from a water logged bunker.

Mike Beard - Chelmsford Leslie Wood team captain 2009

Best golfing memory?

Winning the Leslie Wood two years in a row with Chelmsford.

Managing the team is much less stress than playing.

Favourite course in Essex?

Thorndon Park. The environment is second to none.

Favourite course in UK?

Loch Lomond. Few courses are laid out as beautifully as this. It is scupltured well around the trees.

Best tip?

Keep your head down.

What changes would you like to see introduced in the game?

There needs to be something done to attracts and keep more youngsters.

Steve Baker - Romford Leslie Wood team captain 2009

Best golfing memory?

Cadding for Geoff Tidder of Romford when he was playing Ian Quick, who at the time was an England international. Romford won the match.

Favourite course in Essex?

Thorndon Park because of the acreage. There’s a lot of space and it’s interesting.

Favourite course in UK?

Moorpark. Lovely layout, nice looking and good condition.

Best tip you have ever been given?

To stop overswinging. I try to keep my swing at ¾. I was playing off 11 until I picked up this tip. Now I’m a 5 handicapper.

What would you like to see added or improved in golf?

Less changes. The tradition is being taken away. Dress codes are beginning to relax and the way people behave is not getting any better.

John Ounan - Three Rivers Leslie Wood team captain 2009

Best golfing memory?

When Seve Ballesteros chipped in at the 18th at Birkdale, I loved his reaction

Favourite course in Essex?

Thorndon Park, it's like playing on a course in Surrey. I love the mature trees

Favourite course in England?

Woodhall Spa, it's a quality course.

It's very challenging and varies in degrees of difficulty. It's a very well-run place.

Best tip you have ever been given?

'Have a one piece takeaway'

What would you like to see added or improved in golf?

Stupid rules, such as not getting relief when your ball lands in a divot.

A free drop should be given.

Roger Loveday - Romford Leslie Wood Vice Captain 2009

Best golfing memory?

The first time I played a top course. It was Canne Mougin in France. I was 45 and had only been playing golf a few years after packing up football. I think it's on a par with Sunningdale.

Favourite course in Essex other than our own?

Thorndon Park. I don't think the greens are as good as they used to be, but I like the layout and always enjoy playing there.

Favourite course in the UK?

Sunningdale. It's just fabulous. Much better than Wentworth, which I think is over-rated.

Best golfing tip?

Don't sway. When I was struggling to play the problem was always too much lateral movement. I have to keep a check on it.

What would you change about the game?

I think it needs to be cheaper and accessable. A lot of people can't afford to play. I know time is a factor for many, but I think getting the price down is important to attracting more people into the game.

I've served on the committee at Romford so I know the problems clubs are facing with costs. It's not cheap to run a golf course. Perhaps there needs to be more investment in the game from Government.
